Default Are American Toads Scared of Thunder?

There was just these horrible thunder storm outside so my family an I all had to go down to the basement. I quick ran upstairs and got my pet toad to keep her safe. It started to thunder and my toad started freaking out. It was ramming the sides of it's cage. She never did that before. I once took her on vacation in a small cage and she was fine. So, when the skies cleared up, I went back upstairs and put my toad back. She then quick ran into her hide, and she's still there. So, are they afraid of storms?

Appears your frog got scarred either by storm or the human response to it. Many animals sense danger and react to it with a fleeing response. It will probably calm down in it's hide .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Put rocks in it to way it down. Get some kind of cover over the cage top, but still let air get in. Try to protect the cage as much as possible. Make an indestructible hide for Zalt. Hope this helps!

Hmm... Make her enclosure as dark as possible... also try to soundproof it, maybe with... foam? I feel bad for Zalt... This is a tough one. Do you have any smaller tanks inside to bring her in?

I had my toad in a tiny cricket cage. A five gallon is fine for a day or two.

Well toads are wild animals and they have to live in the rain all the time. She'll probably just burrow.

Hmm... just make sure her water dish is full so she can cool off. But remember, toads are cold blooded animals. So as long as the temperature doesn't cage in an instant, she's okay. Did it start to thunder storm where you are yet?
