Default Red Eyed Tree Frog Eye Problem

    Hello,

This is a horrible way to start on the forum, but I have looked throughout the forum for something that looked similar to what is wrong with my frog and I can't seem to find anything.
I have 2 of them in a 26"Hx17x17 Terrarium with live plants and a fake repti-vine with leaves, along with a piece of driftwood. I have had them for just under a week.

His/Her seems to be swollen. I saw her sleeping on the ground when I got home today, so I kind of thought it might of been a cricket that bit her. There doesn't seem to be any kind of puss or anything coming from her eye, she does rub them a bit (but i think that was just her waking up, because she was yawning a bit as well).

    Any ideas and Solutions?

    Sincerely Brandon

hi and welcome to the forum!
would you please answer to "trouble in the enclosure" questions ( sticky thread) and post your answers here so we can help you better. we also need a better pic of his eyes in better lightening so it is clearly visible what is it.
you say you have 2 of them, but just one is sick, is it right?
it does seem swollen around his eye as far as i can see, so that is what you need to get melafix ( fish medication, usually in fish section of the store), do a solution according to the instructions. use it for everything - spray, papertowels and soak a frog in that for 20 min once a day.
as well you need to set up a hospital set for a frog to live in until it is healed. it should look like that - wet paper towels on a bottom, all 4 sided covered with something from outside. uvb for a day lamp ( or that new exo terra ozone is even better) put some plant inside ( artificial) so a frog won't feel too miserable.

do all that and watch him, if it is not getting better in 3-4 days it is time to contact vet who deals with frogs, you might need systemic antibiotics or special eye drops.

we'll go through your answers to "trouble" questions when you post them. good luck!

Thanks for the information, I quarantined him/her last night once I noticed the eye problem. I'm going after work to get the melafix and i'll start applying it when I get home. I really appreciate the help and advice it truly means a lot. My fear is that it was probably a wild caught frog and not bred from a breeder. - Brandon

no problem at all don't worry, lots of frogs on a pet trade are WC, they're still frogs you need just to look more closely for parasites and stress.

edit - i think red eyes import is illegal, thus all frogs on a pet trade should be cb or i'm wrong? can anyone clarify this for me please

You're right he probably is cb.
On the plus side though, I just got the melafix, changed his paper towel (he pooped, which is definitely a plus) and he ate a cricket from last night that I put in. So i'm feeling pretty good about his recovery. He is soaking in the melafix right now!

Note: My other r.e.t.f is completely fine and does not show signs of sickness.thankfully

    Here is their terrarium set-up.
