I have an issue with the tadpoles in my backyard, namely the number. We've already transferred perhaps half of them to small kiddy pool we have in the backyard, but there are still a fair amount left in the main pool from which we transferred them. My parents are trying to set up the main pool, preferably before the end of the summer when it would be a waste, but there are a decent amount of tadpoles in it that would perish in the process. In short, my question is would it be possible to keep transferring them into the already highly populated kiddy pool, or would it probably overcrowd the area?
Depends on number of tadpoles and size of kiddie pool. In general terms, the kiddie pool can be overcrowded and become fatal when tadpoles exceed the O2 in water or their metabolic excrement (Ammonia) become too much for the beneficial bacteria in the kiddie pool sides to process.
Another alternative would be to locate a natural pond in area and transfer them there. If doing so, the transfer container/s must be large enough to provide O2 for trip or maybe could be aerated. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Makes sense, thanks. I don't think it's too much at the moment, but if I were to add the remainder in the main pool, that would probably do it. I don't know where I can release these little guys though. I don't know what might eat them where I put them >_<.
