On the topic of breeding season. During breeding season there are two things that appear on the male. 1 is the Nuptial Pads used for gripping the female and 2 the odontoids extend in length so that they can fight rival males.

A 7" female is a big NO! Females don't get that big. 5" to 5.5" and 6" is really pushing it. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but highly unlikely.

No that is not what I mean...when I say pointy I mean the spine, the tail end.
The bone seems to be more visible in a males.
