    Default Baby bullfrog growing fast.

He/she is growing fast. I was wondering why the inside of its back legs were blue. Is it only while its a baby because I have never seen that on a fully grown one. I didn't want to disturb him/her so i couldn't take a photo I just noticed when it was hopping that it had blue legs.

The blue will only be there as a juvenile, and will fade away as it matures into adulthood.

SCF is right. The majority of GABFs lose the blue when they mature. Some will keep a blue tint, but that's rare. The blue is only present on true Giant African Bullfrogs and not on the dwarf species.

You're right. I forget who's pictures they were on here, but they had adults with a blue-ish tint, that looked really nice.

Oh cool so it's definitely a giant and not a dwarf. For some reason it hasn't eaten anything today which is odd because he/she usually dives straight onto anything that moves.

I apologize for asking a question in another persons thread but is that true 100% of the time? I only ask because these aren't for sale that often around here and I had finally found one, about the size of a half dollar and has since tripled in size, and he/she has the blueish color on the legs, but was sold as a dwarf (to cute to pass up)....if it is the case...thinking I had better go get a 75g for its final home and put the 30g back into storage.

Can you post some pics of it?

I have heard that you should not feed meal or morio worms to frogs due to their hard chitin shells but is it ok to feed them ones that have just shed and are still white because their shell is soft. I only ask because he loves mealworms. I think they're his favourite food because he always pounces straight onto them so it would be a shame to take them out of his diet.

We have had some debate on using morio worms (commonly called superworms in the US) here before. Mealworms contain more chitin than morio worms, so I do not use them. I use morio worms every once and awhile, not as a staple, but to mix up the diet. If you want to use them, do so sparingly. That of course is just my opinion, and others will advise against it. Also I would suggest waiting until your frog is bigger to start using them again. The chances of impaction are greater when the frog is a juvenile.

There are quite a bit of other choices you have as far as feeders. Do you have access to silkworms in the UK? Earthworms are a very good staple along with B. Dubia as well.

Edit: you beat me to it Matthew. =)

I agree with SCF. We need pics.

Mealworms are harder than supers and should be avoided unless freshly molted. Supers can be used occasionally tho with out as much concern. Unless your frog has a history of bm issues than I would stick to softer bodied feeders
