    Default Help Identifying This Frog/Toad?

    I need to know what this frog/toad is.

    Some kinda toad, but it's hard to be more precise from that picture.

    What state are you in? If you google "amphibians of **your state name**" you can probably find a local list to work from. Or go to AmphibiaWeb Database Search and click on their map to get a state list to work from. A website aimed specifically at your location is usually preferable though as they will often take the time to point out key differences in local species.

    This was taken in Iowa and I'm thinking it's an American Toad?

    American Toad is likely. You also have the Fowler's Toad in the east and the Woodhouse and Great Plains Toads in the west. They'll have lighter bellies than an American Toad and other finer differences you can look into. I don't trust range maps 100% though, especially if you're near the edges of the reported ranges.

    It was taken near Des Moines and I don't have any other picture of it. I'm going to call it an "American Toad".

    That's probably about the safest location in Iowa to base a Toad ID on.
