hello. i would much appreciate some advice from all the seasoned frog owners..i have the basics of caring for whites frogs but i need some additional advice. what should i do when i first get my frogs in the mail? could i please get some directions regarding quarantine, vitamins, feeding, etc. if yall could just let me know what yall do when you get a new frog to keep him healthy, it would be a great help.
thanks.
Hi, if the frogs you get are the only ones that will be in the vivarium and they come together at the same time than quarantine is not necessary. If you already have frogs in the viv than the new ones need to be quarantined. The quarantine tank is just a small version of the bigger viv. It still needs to have the correct temp and humidity for the species. In either case, put in the new frogs, drop in several crickets dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements, a water source, and an appropriate decoration (log, branch, moss, leaves, whatever the species likes). Put the viv in a quiet place out of the sun and observe it without the animals knowing that you are there. They need to adjust and become comfortable in the new home. The next day you can feed them like normal and watch them quietly so they can get used to you. Do not handle them. If in the permanent viv you can just go from there. If in a quarantine viv keep them there for 30 days. I dust for 3 feedings with Panacur (Fenbendazole) to remove parasites. After about 20 days you need to get a fecal exam done by a vet, your vet will tell you how to do it. If the fecal is normal you can add them to the rest of the population. Simple huh? LOL. Not much to it really, just watch them for signs of distress, illness, not eating etc. Good luck and I'm sure someone will add anything I forgot.
Hi there, How exciting for you, I don't own these frogs but I love them. If you haven't already then check out the care sheet to your left of the screen.
I would love to see a photo once they are settled in.
HELLO! This panacur- where can i get it? Do I dust their food with it? For how long- 20 days? Thanks!
Panacur or fenbendazole is available through your vet and is administered orally. It is a liquid so a syringe will be needed to administer it. You will need to see the vet for this.
