My toad

Here is my little guy. Every morning I put his enclosure beside me and just stare at him lol. Trying to get him used to me. He gets a little fresh air and some sun, which he probably hates but he does pop up from his burrow when the wind blows. Need to set up an enclosure (a ten gallon) that I can put a light on so my moss grows but doesn't bother my toad.

He could probably sit on top of a quarter but his head is the size of a penny. He has an awkward big head look right now. Not sure if that's a youth thing or just because he was skinny when I found him

Congrats on your little toad! Be careful with Sun because it can warm up a small enclosure to danger levels pretty quick. Also, you should avoid air drafts on your frog enclosure. Ty! I'm a newbie when it comes to toads. I have him on coco fiber but it has dried out. I mist the moss twice a day and it is moist underneath. It's where the springtails and sow bugs hang out. I have seen him go under the moss. Should I leave the rest of the enclosure soil dry or should I keep it damp like I do my tomato frog? He has a water dish but only seems to get in it every few days. The question I currently have is why he has dug some ten holes all around the cage? He seems to do this at night then picks one to bed down in. From now on I will not put him in a drafty or sunny place while I am interacting with him, had no idea it could be bad for him.

You should keep the soil damp but not muddy. Also do you have a hide spot for it?

Toads burrow. They sleep in their burrow. I have hides for my toads. They still burrow. Even inside the hides. My toad enclosure is riddled with burrows lol.

Personally I only keep one side of my enclosure damp. This is so the toad can choose their moisture level. I'm not too OCD about keeping it damp though. They have a large water bowl they like to sit in first thing when they wake up. As long as you have water somewhere they will hydrate themselves as they need.
