I am going to be completely HONEST with this. Based on the size of these frogs. I am going to say these are Mikey NOVEYS frogs. How much did you by them for? If it is ANY MORE OR LESS THAN 80 dollars a frog... im going to get really curious..haha

So... these are purposefully created via human breeding, and do not exist in nature?
Also, curious if they can be housed with the regular red -eye?

Yes LINE breeding causes this morphing of red eyes. Which can only be done in captivity.

yes they can be housed with regular red eyes. All it is ..is a different color pigmentation. Same type of frog.. =)

He said he got some of his stock from Mikey but most of them from SNDF. I forgot to ask how long he's been breeding them but I found a FaunaClassified posting of him selling them back in 2007 so he's obviously had the morph in his collection a while.

I DID spend more than 80, I only bought one frog though

I currently have a leutino, an albino and three regulars. As well as two gray tree frogs. I was supposed to have two leutinos but one was DOA so I may save my credit for some clown tree frogs in the future. I think adding a black one would be fantastic. Does he have any currently? How would I contact him?

In nature melanism can occur in 7% of a population of certain animals. This makes them black/mainly black. There is a melanistic Gabar Goshawk (small bird of prey) that frequents my garden.. he is all black apart from white stripes on his tail. Can this occur naturally in amphibians? If albinism and leuticsm can occur naturally then its guaranteed that melanism can too. I understand that these in the discussion are bred.. but does anyone know, or heard of of any natural occurances (sorry english spelling issues again lol) of any of these mutations in any frog species? I'm rather curious

Default Red Eye Tree Frog of a VERY Different

Shell, I have an old photo of a mutation found in nature by someone here in the past. I'll have to dig it up. It was not a retf though.

Lisa, thank for the link for Mike!

Just curious, but I've run across other posts with "banned" peeps while perusing old threads. Is there a database anywhere which tells why someone was banned? The black RETFs are awesome by the way!

Believe me, i have looked. The mods delete the posts or it may have been a PM that was offensive. Loving the melanistics!

There is not a public list of banned members. We try our best not to speak poorly of others even if their writings or opinions are improper. I will send a pm.

I will mention here that I would refer you to Michael Novy for purchasing healthy frogs. He's a great breeder!

Thanks, Heather. Was just wondering what got Corey (CJ Pelcher) who was posting in this thread, kicked off. I was raising a brow at his "frog flipper" remark, but don't know if that's what did it or soemthing else. Don't know him by the way, just curious.

Sounds good to me! Is there a link to his website or contact info somewhere? Well, if he raises WTFs, which is what I will be getting in the spring. Looking for two nice healthy definite females. I wouldn't mind males but we live in an apartment and you can hear everything through the walls, so the neighbors might not appreciate CROAK CROAK CROAK... lol
