So I found that the soil I'm using isn't good for my Toad's burrowing, as it hardens far too quickly. So I was going to pick up some chemical free potting soil at the hardware store tomorrow morning and use that instead. Is that okay to use? Is there anything else I should know before buying?
Recommend instead of potting soil, get shredded coco sold at pet shops as ExoTerra EcoEarth or ZooMed Plantation Soil. I prefer the later but either one should do.
To adjust the final humidity, just add dechlorinated water until it starts to clump in a closed fist, without dripping water out.

If you can order online here is a deal for Plantation Soil: .Amazon.com: Exo Terra Plantation Soil, 8 Quarts, 3-Pack: Pet Supplies.

I mix ecoearth w/organic soil/compost from Whole Foods, mix it 50/50. Toads have been living in this for two years in the planted tank I have for them. Also, if you don't have a pet store available, then how are you getting your calcium and vitamin suppliments??
