    Default Yum yum worm

I should have tried to take a picture but these frogs eat so fast! Today I gave Thaddeus half of a red worm. He was not sure at first and watched the wiggling creature for a bit, then BANG! It was gone lol. I'm glad he will eat worms because they are healthy food.

Yes they are. Even Red Wigglers are a good nutritious food, but if you cut them or harm the worm in any way it will secrete a noxious yellowish slime that both smells and tastes bad. Many frogs won't eat them anymore after having tasted this defence toxin. It is not toxic to frogs as far as we can tell. They can eat them and no harm done, but some snakes will actually die after eating Red Wigglers. I believe Garter Snakes are one such snake. They cannot eat Earthworms of any kind at all.

Wow. That is interesting about the snakes. Yes, when I cut this worm in half it exuded a foul smelling yellow substance but I then dipped it in declorinated water and dried it off. I did this twice and could no longer smell it, then I fed it to my frog. I gave the other half to my toad but he seemed afraid of it or at least unfamiliar with worms as a food. The turtle ended up getting it, which of course answered the turtles prayers lol.
