Hi all
I have only had frogs for about 6 months so I'm still a newbe
I bought a 2 and 3 yr old Green Tree Frog about a week ago and i have noticed a few things.
They were very underweight so i have been feeding them up and watching them closely. One poops more solidly than the other who basically poos
cricket water ... and the smell is foul.
I was wondering what this sounds like and what treatments can i do to help them along??
any feedback would be greatly appreciated i love all my frogs and i would hate to have any die
AUSTRALIAN GREEN TREE FROG .... NOT AMERICAN.
Have you had fecal test done. The first thing i thought of was Coccidiosis. It can be passed from infected crickets to your frog. Have you noticed anything else about the frogs behavior? Straining usually is evident, rapid dehydration, weight loss and anorexia (off feed) also may be clinically visible.
Thanks for your response chris
I did post this twice :| lol and someone else suggested i add as much info as i could so ill pop it here for you to read too
The other one is here http://www.frogforum.net/general-dis...tree-frog.html
I am hoping to organise a fecal on tuesday after a public holiday tomorrow
Hi I will be organising a poop scoop and fecal on tues after the public holiday tomorrow
I tried to delete the first thread ... but i couldn't work out how and wanted it to be clear to anyone kind enough to help that they are Australian Green Tree Frogs
As far as other factors. I have had them one week i was told they are 2 and 3 yr olds. They were a little on the thin side when i picked them up and they are fabulous eaters. Quite active, Eating and Pooping fine. They seem to stretch their necks up and back a little here and there which i find a bit odd. They have clear eyes and croak here and there. I also got the tank they were housed in. I thoroughly boiled and cleaned the enclosure inside and out with a watered down betadine solution. Then i rinsed with boiled water. ( recommended by local reptile shop) before i put previously boiled water into there enclosure with a pump and heater. The heater is set at 26C. They have some cleaned riverstones to sit on in the land area.
the enclosure is 60x40x40. with a mesh lid. The temp of water sits at 26c .. inside the tank is 23-24C (checked with a infra red thermometer)
They are very similar in size.
Humidity sits at 80%
I only use pre boiled and rested water for misting
main food source crickets with gutload calcium
uvb lighting
i see regular droppings that seem to have firmed slightly ... but still definately not the same as my other healthy Green tree Frog. more like really wet peanut butter at times.
eating is not a problem i give them crickets daily at the moment to monitor that they are eating and pooping
i was told one was a rescure frog and one was bought at a reptile shop as a froglet and they have been together since.
at the moment i remove poop and rock clean the rock and put it back in once dry again.
very minimal handling so far
Thank you very much for helping so far ... does any of these symptoms or information help any further??? i am worried about the little guys and only want them happy and healthy
" I thoroughly boiled and cleaned the enclosure inside and out with a watered down betadine solution." I would use bleach and water to disinfect the tank not a watered down betadine solution. Betadine is the trade name for Povidine-iodine. It works as an antiseptic, bleach is better for Cleaning, Sanitizing and Disinfecting. (1/2 cup bleach to 1 gallon cool water.)
