    Default Hello

Hello everyone. I got my two white's about two months ago and i'm really glad i got them. This website has helped me out a lot, i've been looking through it when i have questions, but this is the first post i've made. I've noticed the two of them are very different. The blue one is short, fat and will eat all of anything and enjoys to come out of the cage. The brown one is long, skinny and a picky eater and hates it when I try to pick him or her up. I've heard one them croaking a few times, but i'm not sure which one, i'm always asleep when it happens. Is it just males that croak? I've heard the only way to tell male from female is the croaking and the size. Are the females fatter, longer, or just all around bigger?

Welcome Ben. There are members here far more qualified than I am to talk to you about your particular species so I will leave that to them, I just wanted to say hi and welcome to the Forum!

Hi Ben and welcome. As much as I would LOVE to..I don't keep Whites tree frogs. But at a guess I would say that the brown frog on top of the green frog is a maleLol. Are these frogs both the same age? Has he got nuptial pads? (black pads on his thumbs) Males can amplex with other males so I wouldn't say that the other frog is female. They are both gorgeous by the way.

lol I don't think they are "amplexing" (had to look it up, but i kind of knew all along) I just placed the brown one into the tank and it jumped onto the other one in the water dish, then i took the picture of the two of them. I didn't see any black on thier toes it was just clear. Is the black nupital pads a sign of maturity or sex? Is it just the thumb or all toes?

I had a feeling someone would see this picture and think they were frogicating lol!

Hi Ben, The nuptial pads are on the thumbs and they are to help the male frog grip on to the females. These become apparent during the breeding season.

ok, one of my friends had a tarantula and said the males grow something on the tip of their front legs for gripping on females just like that. When is the breeding season? how is it simulated in captivity? temp or light changes?

I'm not trying to breed, they are probably too young if I tried. I'm just curious. I enjoy learning about how they live.
