Well, the 17 year brood 2 cicadas are in full swing here, and I believe Clyde has bound a new favorite, free food! Makes him and my wallet happy!

If you don't mind me asking, what state are you in?? The cicadas haven't come out yet here in northern VA.
A strange food for him, but they should be pretty meaty. Only odd thing about Cicadas is that the adults don't feed so I'm not sure that they're a good nutritious food. Makes a good treat food I guess.
Clyde is looking good Bruce.![]()
Thanks griff! Actually, from what I've read they're extremely healthy since they've been feeding on tree sap for 17 years. Even my pacman couldn't resist them and ate 7 of them on her own, first time eating on her own in months!
I'm in northeastern PA, near the boarder of NJ
I'm surprised yours are out, i live in a heavily wooded neighborhood and usually the yearly species will be deafening. I know the brood is close to coming (damn things are on all of my woody plants roots)
I'm a CT native and can't wait to go home on leave in about two weeks. Hopefully I get to catch the tail end of the swarm.
Male cicadas are pretty much hollow inside, like an acoustic guitar.
Clyde is looking good! and very happy![]()
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
We had a 17 year cycle here in KY several years ago and my critters absolutely loved eating them. You know there are recipes for these things for people lol! No joke! You get them right after they eclose before their exoskeletons harden, a little butter, garlic and presto! Kinda taste like a nutty flavored shrimp...
The adults do feed btw...They have a piercing mouth-part they use to penetrate and suck up sap.
