Smile Heating Tank - Red Eye

I have a terrarium that's small and vertical. I think it's a 10 gallon, not too sure. The contents of it are as follows (bottom to top):
-Clay aggregate bottom to absorb the moisture
    -Soil
    -Sphagnum moss
    -Two live plants

The humidity and temperatures seem to be okay as long as I am misting (70-80F) (60-90%). However, I am planning on using my air conditioner soon as the weather is getting increasingly hotter. I've tried using a 50 watt "night time" bulb, but he still seems to be bothered by the light. I am thinking of using a heating pad, but not sure if it would be effective/where I would need to place it. Any suggestions? I don't want to kill him from the cold air conditioner. I've attached a picture of the terrarium.
