Default HELP Children found injured frog/toad 2 broken legs

Okay, my children found a frog/toad yesterday, I think he got hit by a lawn mower or something both legs on his right side seem to be broken. He can't hop he just kind of crawls tried feeding him an earthworm I dug up. Have him in a plastic old ice cream bucket with leaves.

I tried to just let him go yesterday I put him under a tree that way I knew how far he got or if he had gone when I woke up well he made it maybe 2 ft and that was it so I made the assumption he is either a) going to die if I leave him or b) We take him in and care for him until he is better.

I need help I am way over my head and do not know what I am doing...

IMO,euthanasia would be the most humane thing to do. You can rub orajel on it's back to do this.

Photos may help us assess the frog. You might check your local area for an amphibian, or turtle, or more general wildlife rehabilitation centre willing to take care of it.

Euthanasia is an option. If it's a frog I hit with my mower that's my approach if the wounds are too severe to recover from and with a mower encounter this is almost always the case.

If the injuries weren't caused by man (i.e. an unsuccessful snake attack), letting 'nature take it's course' is another option. It may seem cruel, but imo it's better an injured frog returns to the food chain than a predator having to go after a healthy one.

On the belly is suggested, the pelvic patch is made to absorb so it will take it up quicker. More info on the unpleasant deed here http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...tml#post124199 or here Caudata Culture Articles - Euthanasia for Amphibians

Brian, thanks for clarification on the orajel. I've had to do this w/a young deformed frog and it was so quick and peaceful. Also good point on "food chain" suggestion, I just don't know if I could go that route, but like I said, good point.
