Something kinda cute and Reptivite lethal for nightcrawlers?

No pics (that came out clearly) of it, but Banjo has started doing what I've read about toads doing: coming up to front of tank to ask for food. I get it, I come home and turn on the light so her frog sense tells her that where there is light, there might be bugs, but I was changing and I look over and she's just sitting there in corner looking out at me expectantly. Pervert or hungry, my money is on hungry. So of course she got an earth worm.

Yesterday I was struggling to get AC in window so pets wouldn't overheat (3-4 days of 90 degree heat) and she came to front like, "what's all the ruckus about? keep it down out there." I believe she may have gotten an earthworm for that too. She definitely did, cuz I remember it flipped over her head hilariously but she wrangled it. After she gets something to eat, she goes off and does toad things in other parts of the tank. I like that she's letting me know, in her way, when it's time to eat. Better than being woken up with a bad-breathed cat yelling in and hitting you in the face. Not that I don't love that too. I worry about Banjo going off and living with someone else. She's so quiet, if someone forgot about her, her water would get nasty and there would be no rinsed off, patted dry and dusted worms to flip over her head like a wayward noodle. I know they can go awhile without food, but I don't really trust anyone to dust her bugs or look for poops, or to check that her temps are good. Or to simply check up on her to make sure she's looking like her normal gorgeous self. (she is.)

Also, I've noticed that reptivite seems to kill any nightcrawler I try to dust with it. So I use it only for roaches and mealworms now, and save the calcium/d3 for the worms, which are her staple anyway. Am I mistaken or did I read that worms contain most of what is in reptivite anyway? Her calcium supplement contains lots of the same vitamins, just less I believe, but they do fine in it. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever noticed this. No other bug has an issue with reptivite.

Really glad I put in AC, even tho I'm leaving soon and the new noise and comfort of it makes me sleep through alarms, cuz I separated boy and girl breeding dubia into smaller bins, put em up on shelf, and one lady I didn't think was all that pregnant gave birth earlier tonight while I was out. Must've gotten pretty warm up there. So I gave the girls a man. Lucky guy. I could put them all back in together, but I've already cleaned out their bin, and still planning to sell them very soon. Easier for me to pack them up and get them out fast this way.

Anyhoo, that's all for now. Banjo is still awesome, that's about the jist of it.

Now ya know you aren't gonna place Banjo in a different home, that is unless it's my home . Yesterday I spent 6 hours just going from tank to tank, feeding, cleaning, pruning plants and what not. It was 6 hours of smiles.

how'd those dubia from your roach people go over with everyone?

They all seem to like them except Rufus, but I bet if he was hungry enough he would eat them. The only problem is if they hit the ground they burrow right away. The red runners just, well run.

they are definitely best fed out of a ceramic dish. can be low too, as long as it's smooth sided; they're terrible climbers. i like that if one gets away from you outside of tank, they're crazy easy to pluck up and catch. chances are they'll land on their backs and wiggle their little legs in the air. without another roach to come along and right them (it happens), they'll stay that way, break-dancing, til they get tired. they do play dead tho, so maybe try mixing crickets and dubia? 1st time i gave Banjo roaches, i wasn't sure she'd eat them so I gave her a mix and a cricket rode around on a roach's back til she ate them both. it may confuse Rufus just enough to go after one and discover he likes them.

ok so i just gave her a breakfast of reptivited roaches and the long toe on her left foot started twitching while she was "hunting" them in bowl. i thought at first that one had gotten onto her, but no. i'm hoping she was just excited about them. only happened when they had her attention, and only that one toe twitched. left room and came back to find her completely in bowl and only one roach left.

if toe tapping is normal, then cool; i've just never noticed it before.

yep, that's what i saw. that's a relief, tho i had a feeling it wasn't anything malignant. she's most likely done it before, but i've never noticed cuz i'm more interested in making sure she gets the earthworm before it can wiggle off the plate. and that's an all-around more frenzied encounter anyway. her habit of getting in there with her food or hooking back feet on lip of dish and leaning in have probably kept it hidden from me.

often i'll see her sitting in her water and her face will be wet. wasn't sure how that was happening since i've never seen her go below water surface and the bowl is not all that deep. even if it was filled to brim, which it never is, her head would still be above water line when she got in. i have seen her wash her face with her hands but not in a while and i think it had something to do with frequent shedding that was happening at the time. but the other day i had just changed water in metal bowl (used to be her food bowl when she was smaller, til she went after the reflection of a cricket), so it was nice and clear. she walked up to it, saw her own reflection in the bottom i'm assuming, cuz she had that intent look about her, and stuck her face in bowl til her nose hit water, then pulled back. i should have known that would happen after cricket debacle. i like the metal bowls cuz they're easy to clean and non-porous, but i should probably switch to either the ceramic kidney one or the even more shallow metal bowl, so she doesn't drown herself trying to eat her own face. altho, if it hasn't happened already, it's probably unlikely. the problem with more shallow dishes is once her chubby self gets in and out, most of the water ends up displaced and in surrounding dirt. if she'd stop playing Narcissus with it, it would be the most perfect water bowl.
