One lost her/his tail about 2 days ago, and I still haven't seen her/him eat the green flies I have put in, even when they crawl on her face! Is this normal? When will she start eating? They are Bufo Bufo Toads.
Thank you xxx
I have no idea what green flies are but I know "toad frustration". I can't even get them to the toadlet stage. Perhaps since it has reabsorbed it's tail only two days ago it technically still has a full belly. At this point I would just keep trying to feed. Good luck!
Not sure about toads but my frogs will not eat for a few days after they absorb their tail (that is normal). And with dart frogs they will become stressed if their are to many flies in the enclosure crawling all over them. Just something to think about and again not sure about toads i have never bred them, but wish you luck.
Also not sure what green flies are, but if you are talking about green bottle flies, well those are just nasty and I don't think they are good for frogs. When I had toad tads once the tail was reabsorbed they began to eat fruit flies, spring tails & newly hatched roaches right away. Good luck!

Sorry, they are commonly know as aphids, so their pretty small. Thanks for all of your replies! xxx
If you are collecting from the wild, just make sure what ever they are feeding on is not toxic to amphibians, since whatever they eat, your toads eat.

They can eat springtails and Turkish glider flightless fruit flies. We did feed our wild toads aphids, but knew they were from a non-fertilized source.
Until I received my springtails and ff I used a nice coffee cup to skim our yard grass for aphids. I'd wear gloves and pick put any spiders or larger bugs. They loved the bitty aphids. I got my ff and springtails from joshsfrogs.
As Gail has noted though, be careful of your source. You don't want to poison them or give them parasites.

Also, remember to keep their water just shallow enough for them to sit in after their tails absorb. They drown easily.
