Good idea, how deep should the water be for this?
Hello Madelon! The soaking water should be frog's chin depth. What amount (no. and size) of worms and or crickets did it consume daily while it was eating?
How long is frog snout to vent (SVL) actually? Based on thread information and last pic it does appear stunted as Colleen/Jerrod stated. Only things can think of is either a genetic anomaly, or a chronic case of parasites keeping frog small. If frog is not pooping can't do a fecal test. Can you get some Fluker's ReptiBoost? Thank you!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Madelon while you're out you may want to pick up some Fluker's Repta Boost(as Carlos has already suggested) from a pet store. This is a medicated supplement for sick and malnourished reptiles and amphibians. You may have to force feed your little guy.
We all can walk you through the process of force feeding. It can be stressful for you as well as the frog.
He only ever takes something from the tongs once each feeding, but he'd get upto 4 medium crickets in one feeding. He would eat about twice a week. I didnt wanna bother him too much with measuring him, so I took this picture with a quarter. Notice his one eye is still half closed
Is that all he would eat or all you would offer him? Twice a week is not enough food for a baby and could have been the reason that he became stunted. Babies must be fed daily and need calcium every other feeding and a multivitamin once a week for excellent health and growth. I'm sure poor genetics play a significant role here too, but not receiveing enough nutrition during crutial growth stages can result in the frog not reaching its full potential and in the worst case failing to thrive.
Do the medicated bath and we will take necessary steps afterwards. Besure to pour some of the bath over his back too.
Also I have found during soaks to put a small towel around the container this will
keep the frog from trying to jump at the sides of the container if the container is clear.
also it will help keep the solution from cooling down two quickly in cooler areas.
I am a new keeper of Packmans and thanks to this forum I have learned a lot.
I hope your little one perks up and gets well soon.
Keep us posted.
BTW thanks to another member here I have started a colony of dubia roaches.
I have heard that varying the diet of any frog is a really good thing.
the only foods I have heard to stay away from are meal worms and super worms.
That they can cause impaction.
The thread just stopped, how is Darwin?
Im not sure, he hasnt moved since I got him out of his bath yesterday, but looks like the eye I can get a look at without disturbing him is mostly open. I'll bathe him again later today
