New milk frog owner with lots to ask........

Hi froggy people,

I'm picking up 2 milk frogs later today and have a few questions for you all.

1 - I've got a new exo terra viv yesterday and have set it up with branches, vines, plastic plant etc etc - Are real plants a good idea and if so which ones?.

2 - I have put a day glow bulb in the canpoy and the temp at the top is around 82 and 75 at the bottom - Do i need a heat mat as well?, the room is always nice and warm.

3 - The floor is nice and wet/moist and i will change the water every day - do i need to mist / spray them?, If so how often.....

4 - Feeding - Do i just let the crickets go free in the viv, will they just hunt them down?, And also how often do i feed and how many?,

Any help would be great, These are for my wife as im more of a lizard man, But i must say there quite cute.

Welcome to Frog Forum!

I believe real plants are always better than fake. The frogs will appreciate them as well. The will need high 'perching' spots. The would really feel comfortable w/ high..... placed hides. All real plants should be prepared and re-potted before put into the enclosure to red it of any chemicals. A FF "search" will find dozens of posts as to how to do this.

The enclosure and any decorations that go into the tank needs to be disinfected. The wood could be boiled or baked ( low heat for 20 min)
Plain very wet paper towel will be fine in the beginning.....many people actually keep them above shallow filtered water when they are adults.

Remember the crickets need to be dusted w/ calcium and vitamins. I believe they will bowl feed.

And, then there is the quarantine period. Minimum of 30 days. This is to assure one frog does not spread an illness to the other. Quarantine is a very simple tank enabling you to keep an eye on them; making sure they are eating, poop ect. This is especially important when the are froglets. It gives you time to get to know them and get their main tank all ready to go. I use 10 gallon tanks for quarantine for tree frogs. If there are any sings of illness ( lack of appetite, diarrhea ) then a fecal sample should be done and a 90 day quarantine. Appropriate quarantine procedure info:
