Great! when your keeping dart frogs you will need these things

- misting/fogger system (optional)
- glass lid
- backround
- drainage layer
- substrate
- plants

When you have your terrarium, you can choose to have just a plain backround or a 3d backround that looks nice and can be used for planting. to build one of these you can use the Great stuff meathod by spraying the foam the way you like it ( be aware that the foam will expand) after drying, use silicone or titebond 3 glue to cover the foam, then throw some dry cocoa husk on the backround. you will want many layers because it will fall off at first. Make sure whenever making your backround to leave two to four inches of space for your drainage layer.

When setting up your tank, a drainage layer will be very helpful in keeping the still water from stinking up the terrarium and will be more forgiving if you overwater or overmist the enclosure, you can build one of these by using either egg crate or hydrogen. Hydrogen can be placed with a 1-2 inch layer and have a divider usually of window screen or weed block. Building an egg crate drainage layer is another option, place 4 to 6 PVC tubes about 2 inches in diameter by 1-2 inches tall and drill holes in the sides so the water dosent get stagnant, silicon the pipe pieces to the bottom and place your egg crate down with mesh divider.

You can use a wide variety of substrates with dart frogs, cocoa husk fibers are most comonly used and some people use mixes of moss, cocoa husk, leaf litter and other substrates to create their own natural mix. Place two to four inches of substrate down for plant growth and be sure to add springtails in after, they decompose mold and are a great food for darts and mantellas and after adding those, use leaves from a safe area without pesdicides and collect leaves for the darts and springtails to hide under, i like to use oak and magnolia leaves for the frogs that i keep.

Now comes the fun part, choosing your plants is probably one of the best parts of designing a frog terrarium. With dart frogs, certian plants such as bromeliads make perfect breeding grounds for a number of darts, other useful plants are pothos, wandering jew and earth's star. Be aware of the frog species that you are planning to keep though, some will climb high like the leucomelas and others like the azereus will be more ground dwellers.

Whenever keeping dart frogs, always use a glass lid to trap in the humidity. Don’t worry about the frogs, the plants will create oxygen through their process of photosynthesis. As the lid traps the humidity, you need to provide it as well. Using a regular spritzer with dechlorinated water will take a while for the cage you have, a garden pump sprayer would be better, you can get them at any garden supply store.
Lighting as I did not mention earlier is one of the most important aspects of keeping darts. The frogs really don’t care about the lighting but the plants will need it for growth. A gentle white light at around a 5.0 would suffice and if you have a taller tank a higher rated buld like a 10.0 will work.
