yeah, those removable backgrounds never really work out. not that it can't be done, they are just a pita.

the vine idea sounds cool. the plants will love climbing them

the curio? just do what i plan on doing, build your own huge viv. if you can build a box out of wood, you are half way there. lol

I agree. I have taken out every pre-fab background that comes with the tanks.

I've wanted to make a tall curio into a tree frog tank. I never did it bc I was worried about water leakage and difficult waterproofing one.

A little update... Worked on the silicone and substrate yesterday. 6 tubes and I still need about 2 more.

It's getting heavy, lol! Who would have thought foam, silicone and substrate would add so much weight. Had fun making a mess. I'll hopefully get the rest siliconed tomorrow. Flood warnings up by the mall where I need to go to get more silicone.

Thanks! Me too. They are pushed right into the silicone. I'm imagining most will end up hidden amongst the vining plants, but that's okay. The sparkles are more for me, lol .

looks great Heath!! but good god woman, 6 tubes of silicone? you could have done it with about $10 worth of titebond.....lol the sparkles will catch the light, even through the vining plants. it's be like little pieces of buried treasure!! should be awesome!

Jeesh! I won't even tell you what I spent on the silicone then . I think the surface area is quite a bit more than you'd guess being all of the knicks, crannies, bumps and lumps of the foam. It took a lot to fill in those little valleys I created everywhere. How much titebond do you think it would have taken? This is good for me to know for the next upcoming tank.

you could have done it with less than 2 bottles of tb. about $12.....lol i get it at lowes for about $26/gallon. for some reason, home depot doesn't sell the gallon jugs.

All siliconed up and pressed/weighted in. I'll leave it to dry for 2 days and see how it looks. I'll post pics after it dries and is upright.

Lol! Thanks . I love sparkles! If I could afford diamonds it would have been even sparklier , ha ha!

Really, all it is is plant pots held onto the glass with Great Stuff Foam. Dried, holes poked through great stuff for plant drainage. Silicone, gems, dry Eco Earth pressed into wet silicone. The vine is braided rope siliconed and Eco Earthed. The vines have plastic coated wire twisted around them then pushed into the foam, then siliconed right over the wire and wire holes. The 2 gray rocks are just foam covered in gray silicone. Not hard, just messy and time consuming. Fun .

I can hardly wait to add the plants. I'll use ABG for the plants and an occasional frog poo for fertilizer.

I thought about siliconing another vine to the right glass wall but changed my mind. I like the additional viewing and sometimes my red eyes like sleeping on the cool glass. There should be plenty of vines for them to hide in if they'd like once the plants grow in. The vine portion along the left will have a pothos which I'm hoping to wind up around the rope as it grows in.

The bottom will be simple...paper towel as substrate, water bowl, cricket bowl.

I hope they'll like it.
