Just commenting, your frog could easily lose an eye. I'm not against feeding live animals at all, don't get me wrong. A fuzzy is just a little more appropriate for your animal IMHO.
That's fine, i'm really not giving you negative input, just trying to help from experience.
A fuzzy would be more appropriate, they don't bite like that. Frozen/thawed works well too. The only reason I commented about the size or even to the video, is because it would be quite unfortunate if your animal lost it's eye to a mouse. Then it would kinda be serious. If you want PM me, I have a couple decent feeding videos, and then you can tell me what you think.
Dabrute that was an example of a bad live feeding. I'm glad you are willing to be more careful next time. The part that bothers me the most is that you didn't even try to intervene with a pair of tongs/forcepts to stop the mouse from biting the frog.
These kinds of feeding can result in serious injury to you frog or worse even death. An adult mouse can easily put out your frog's eye/eyes and the bites can be dangerous due to infection.
It is also inhumane. The mouse suffered a great deal before dying painfully. The mouse was definitely much to large for your frog. Now you will also need to worry about impaction. Don't feed the King for at least 3 days then offer a couple Night Crawlers to act as a stool softener.
Learn from your mistakes. We all do.
Thank you for your understanding of member's concerns.
To me it looked close enough just because of its size compared to the King. If the frog had been larger this may have ended much more quickly for the mouse saving both it and the frog some pain.
It is always a thrill to see a live mouse get devoured by a large frog, but we must think of the well being of the frog and be prepared to jump in when something goes wrong.
I'm glad you learned your lesson.
Thank you
Jerrod
If you provide them a well balanced diet you'll be golden, no need to feed mammals. Maybe look into a roach colony and feed them a good staple of night crawlers and roaches.
The way I see it feeding them a mammal is purely a "treat" item and not required. Not worth the risk to me. Plus mice/rats are cuteI fed two fuzzies and the squeaking as they got eaten was just too much for me.
Right now I have a colony of dubia, hissers, and lateralis roaches. I'm thinking about adding one more species this week. Plus I buy night crawlers by the 1/2 flat (250) worms at a time to feed my 5 pyxies a well rounded diet.
