I've been feeding my two Pacific Chorus Frogs, Pip and Yoki, every other day a mixture of crickets and mealworms. Last night, I got both of them to actually come out onto a log for their feeding and I noticed that they are definitely round. Pip was a bit skinny when I first got him, but now he has really filled out. Yoki has a pot belly even before a feeding. So-am I feeding too much? Should I cut back for a few days? For such a small frog, they have very healthy appetites!
Meal worms are very fatty, maybe you could cut down on those. I would say only feed meal worms on occasion as a treat.
Chorus frogs do have little pot bellies and they do eat a lot. Put some pics in your albums now and then and I can look at them when I visit.
I agree with Julia about the mealworms.
Okay, I'll cut back on the mealworms. They are just so dang convienent sometimes, especially when I get off of work at midnight and can barely keep my eyelids open. More crickets escape during those times than get fed to the frogs.
I will create an album for them and post some pics. In one, Yoki looks like he's pregnant!
Are you sure Yoki is a HE? It is breeding season for them so if it is a SHE she could be gravid. Do you hear any calling at night?![]()
Yeah, I am pretty sure it's a boy. He also has a dark throat and the vocal sac that is always ballooned out. The other day, I heard two distinct noises coming from the Exo-Terra. One was the keer-kik sound and the other was...almost like a purr, but in frog language-does that make sense? Both at the same time, so I figured both males were calling. I'll check what pics I do have of them and see if I have a shot of his throat....Oh, and I have heard calling at night, but also during the day. They started going at about 10 AM this morning.

Okay, found a photo or two. The first is definitely Yoki-sitting in his fav spot on the log. The second one I am pretty sure is Yoki (due to the belly) but it could also be Pip. I will try and get some better pics tonight after work.
They look like normal. healthy frogs.
I'm pretty confident that Pip and Yoki are both males. The dark throats are pretty positive of that. However, the above pics were taken about a week ago and they have had several feedings since then. Pip's weight gain is not as evident because he hids in the back most of the time, but I've included a couple of Yoki. As you will see, he is very round. I'm all for a little pot-belly (who isn't?), but I think I have over-fed this little guy. He's going to go on a strict cricket-only diet for the time being!!
Still looks perfectly normal. Now if this was a red-eye with a pear shaped body, then that would be a problem. Your frogs are perfectly normal.
In other words, Kurt, I should shut-up and stop worrying!! Okay, okay-I get it! Thanks!
You're welcome. I rather have you worry than not give a ****.
