    Default Frog advice

    HI,
i have a year old rana temporaria with a missing leg, he finds it difficult to hop or swim so isn't as mobile as usual.
i had an issue with metabolic bone disorder in Jan/Feb but I've been to the vet and he is on a combination of liquid calcium and vitamin D3 in his water and spray and exoterra vitamin d3 and calcium powder on his food. He's improved considerably and has grown significantly since starting this.
Anyway this long winded post is basically to ask, is it normal for them to lie on the substrate to rest/sleep? I'm watching him like a hawk since the MBD and I've noticed that he goes into a plant pot and lies down. Something to worry about?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
Please post pictures if possible we love pictures.

If the frog is eating ok and isn't listless.
    I wouldn't worry.
Seeking a calm place is not unusual.
Many frogs do it to feel secure

Thanks for that, I'll assume he's just getting comfortable.
That's him in his old set up above, just a few weeks ago.

This was him as a tiny froglet.
I still have to take pictures of him in his new set up, he seem happier and he's not as stressed trying to swim.

Aw I had a little toadlet with a missing leg. However his wound was fresh when I found him and he only lived a few months. I named him Stumpy lol. I'm glad your guy is doing so well though!

    Thanks
When I had him at the vet she seemed to think it was pretty good we'd got as far as we had.
The missing leg is actually my fault. I was hover mowing my back garden, a couple of days afterwards I opened the grass recycling bin and there he was lying on top of the cuttings freshly chopped leg.
I had always intended to release him if possible but as time went on it became obvious he was pretty badly disabled. He can't hop- he walks about awkwardly. If panicked he tries to "run" and flips himself on his back. Same with swimming, it's circles or on his back.
He also became really tame really quickly. So he stayed

Agree with Louis and would not worry as long as frog is eating and healthy. What you did for "mowed" frog is very nice .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I couldn't leave him. My OH said to kill him.
I still have Frank. Don't have the OH any more....
