Hi! I'd like to buy a dendrobates because of his diurnal behavior. I like Ranitomeyas but I'm don't know the features of each Dendrobates Some are climber, other shy,.. but I don't know what are those. Can anybody write a short summary of the most famous frogs? Thnks!
Hi guilletto,
I current have three different species. I'm happy to share my observations.
My D leucomelas are the most bold and very vocal. They come to the door when I'm there.
They are not shy or even afraid on my hand in the enclosures during maintenance.... they love to climb. In fact, they think they are tree frogs
I have a group of 5 in ---18 x 36 wide bx 24 " high exo terra...they use the entire tank.
My R imitators are bold as well. Very busy. They use the entire 24" high enclosure all the way to the leaves against the ceiling glass.
My D auratus........( green/black) ........... I never see them. Not even at feeding time ? And not just one ----all four!
Now and then I have to find them to be sure they are ok.
They all huddle together in a little auratus dart frog pile Without a lot of leaf litter...I think they would have little melt downs!
They are always out when I approach the enclosure .....but so shy........ they scamper when they know I'm approaching.
I remember one month into quarantine; I noticed they began to become very stressed - they really needed to be moved into their permanent enclosure.
Have fun! Keep us posted.
Poke around :
