Do you let the insects just run around until the frog catches them? I have dubia and all they do is run and go bury themsleves. Suggestions?
I responded "tong feeding" in your other thread. I'm using this pair of zoomed plastic tongs to "feed" a quarter to my imaginary animal that likes to eat quarters. Just replace the quarter with something your animal will like to eat, whether it be Dubia, earthworms, etc. You can also control the amount of what your feeding, and make sure your animal will not ingest substrate or plants.
I do prefer to put earthworms inside a water bowl, while the frog is soaking. It will dive down and eat them.
Another thing to note, while tong feeding your frog, hold the tongs with the food item parallel to your frogs head. It will reduce the risk of it injuring itself when it lunges furiously at it's prey. Sooner than later your frog will equate the tongs to food and will know once it sees the tongs it's getting fed.
The right way to tong feed.
The wrong way to tong feed. I hope this helps!
Awwwe thanks! Where could I buy some cheap tongs?
Most local pet shops should have them. Some people prefer the rubber tipped ones, but the rubber tips need to be secured to the tongs. A member here (Bruce) recently lost a tip to his big male, it took him a couple weeks to retrieve it I believe.
Do these frogs have that big of a bite? Lol

Here is the thread.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
The only thing i'm brave about is drawing on my socks, my girlfriend is definitely going to be like WTH.
The way i'm holding the tongs makes them look shorter. It was hard to take a pic like that. I've had MANY close calls, and experienced all kinds of crazy feeding responses, i.e. backflips, hops across the tank for food, etc. I have worse luck with snakes... =) Even though most of the time they are just bluffing me.
Have you tried placing your frog in a separate container for feeding? I use a HUGE empty Sterlite box for my adult pyxie. I just place her in and put food in there. She's always eaten this way.
i have a very long tongs for my snakes, i kinda love to keep my distance.

Here's what you do, if you don't want to move him to a feeding tub or use tongs.
Just crush the dubia's head before you feed it. It will still run around and flail attracting attention to itself, but it won't really try to burrow. It can last very long in this state, definitely long enough to get eaten.
Works like a charm.
how rapid do they grow anyway? within months?
I have a male juvie that wil backflip everything for his food even before i feed i can open his cage and he sees my finger he will jump dont let you Pyxie fool they will jump out of the cage i know it took almost all day looking for him he was under my dresser. My big female ornata is very mellow at times but she can still bite you but when they get bigger they get a little mellow
