I only have dubia! lol BUT! since I need to fatten my new frog up..I'm going to buy crickets later and get some mealworms lol
IMO night crawlers are the most nutritious live frog food! Gut loaded insects (fed carrots, oranges, veggies) for roughage, and professionaly prepared (by me
) "frog sausages" for the big guys; round up my offerings.
I do the normal dustings with Repashy products too.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Night crawlers are available at some petshops, Walmarts sports section, and tackle and bait stores. If bought from last 2 ensure have no additives. They are not cheap, and if using lots, recommend culturing them. Can get materials, videos, cultures online (i.e. Amazon); just search "worm culture" or similar in Google or Youtube.

They are around 5 dollars for 25. Depending on age of the pyxie in question and numbers (which OP is asking about a single animal) That should last 1-2 weeks, so 2.50 a week. Doesn't seem too expensive to me. Earthworm cultures can easily fail depending on what zone you live in as well.
Edit: Carlos, do you culture earthworms? I'm just curious..
Ok I'm new to this! How do I make it eat night crawlers? Aren't they earthworms?
My top 3:
- Dubia roaches (Gutt loaded with carots) 2 or 3 days before
- Adult locusts
- Canadian nightcrawlers.
Nightcrawlers are big earthworms. The best of the best for our lovely big frogs![]()
ok but do i let them run loose? I just got my frog sat and he ate that day..but he isnt even eating now..lol they just run and bury themselves before he catches them. please advise.
well top 3 for mine.... that is what she eats:
1. crickets ( loves the most), about 20-25 per feeding
2. hormworms, about 5-6 per feeding
3. nightcrawlers, loved when she was little, now it takes a lot of convincing to do and if the moon phase is right lol, she would eat very very rarely and only from a water bowl.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
