    Default Picky Pyxie

I have an adult female that I've had for a year since she was a froglet that will only eat hornworms and sometimes night crawlers (and horn worms are expensive and hard to find!). She was raised on staple of dubias, but hasn't eaten one in months. It almost seems like their thorny legs bother her. The funny thing is, my fantasy frog has become the same way (I was debating whether or not to post here or the pacman forum).
If I show her a dubia, she'll actually shut her eyes or dunk her head underwater! But it's funny to see her light up when there's a juicy green worm in her cage...but seriously, I think both frogs would rather starve than eat roaches now...
I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem.

Not in my frogs, but yes in fish. Even many "smart" humans will rather eat dessert than veggies... just give the option to kids. Other than the occasional treat; should never offer a frog "candy" in large quantities or before staple meal is eaten.

I've "re-programed" fish by withholding food for a couple days and then offering just a few pellets. If they refuse them, take them out and do the same thing next day. By 4-5 five days they are all back with the program and then get 1-2 krill or prawn pieces after they eat their pellet meal.

You could try same procedure to get your frogs to accept a more nutritious (and inexpensive) food in diet (night crawlers and dubias). Be aware that some frogs can be very stubborn !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Yeah, I've offered dubias every day for weeks, then nothing for a few days, back to dubias...same apathetic responses. I'm guessing I'll have to find other things that they might eat. It's like once they tried the horn worms, they couldn't forget about them.

Okay, I got her to eat some dubias...First, I whetted her appetite by giving her a horn worm. Next, I gave her a small dubia. She ate it and several afterwards. I'm thinking she doesn't like the adult dubias because of their clingy, sharp legs. The little ones are much softer...Maybe I can get my fantasy frog to eat them again using this method.
