Hey there,
I recently bought Hornwort and my god, is it a pain to keep. The needles are shredding constantly and my tank (white sand substrate) always looks messy. They love to tangle themselves in the Hornwort and stay at the top of the tank. (I guess coming up for air all the time gets tiresome)
Anyway, the bottom half of the Hornwort is dying and is getting brown, and it is messing up my tank aesthetically, but I need it for the frogs. So what would be better:
A) Hornwort:
-Real Plant
-Natural
-provides safety for frogs
CONS: Messy and high maintenance. I already have plently of plants in my tank at the moment I have about 8-9 different species of plants in my tank at the moment so taking away this species will not be a problem in that sense.
B) Home-made basking deck:
(This will be a plastic deck stuck onto the tank via suction cups, at the very top of the tank, water will slightly cover the bottom layer (a few millimetres)
I was thinking of matting it with aquarium grass or some other apt plant, to give it more texture for the frogs.
Ideas? I have two floating plants at the moment, Hornwort and Frogbit, I would really like to get rid of the hornwort, but it has many good things about it, so I'm not sure.
Thanks!
