What type of SUBSTRATE DO YOU USE AND WHY?

Eco earth and moss because I find eco earth dries out too fast the moss helps keep the moisture in.
It also means they can dig structurally sound tunnels.
I use two blocks of earth and two of the moss.
Under that a layer of river pebbles.
I feed my frogs outside of the tank or while they are sitting in the water so they do not consume the moss.
And I figure in the wild they´d get a few mouthfuls of organic material so they "if" they did consume some moss they´d be ok anyway.

Hi I use for frogs coco soil aka eco earth and I use live moss everything is fine with the frog but in cane toads rub im using sterilised top soil and I am having problems with the mould its getting everywhere so im going back to using eco earth others disagree but im at witts end lol

even with coco soil cleaning requirements are the same. If you use gravel as used for fish tanks you might have better luck cleaning(for cane toads). But like i always say you cant go wrong with eco earth. (for pixies eco earth is the best option.)

My bull frog is doing great and the toads tank or rub is what I am having difficulty in keeping with the following mould growing in top soil and I onky cleaned a week ago but I was told on here mybe I was using wrong substrates for wrong frog or toad some tanks with proper job done don't have to be cleaned untill every cupole of months like addibg mulch drainage and spring tails wood lice etc to self clean .maybe I could do with more holes in top or I could drill some in side the rub at tge top thecrub is only temporary basis as im having a 3ft by 2ft by 2ft an bull froogs a 2ft cube but they are to small for the toad an frog anyways back to drawing board and I will have to try something else. .!!????! But eco earth seems like the idea substrate mixed with a little top soil and nybe compost or mulch mix with bark an some stones for drainage

let us know how it goes. Just remember if conditions are right mold will grown almost anywhere. I know it sucks and cleaning frequencies may vary. Honestly i think if you have conditions right for the pixie mold will grow like crazy in that environment, maybe you are doing nothing wrong at all Carl.

Cheers' everyone I don't mind Cleaning Just Want best for toad and frogs but it's toads Rub box that's got problem do they need a high humidity as I think Soils' O.K. Like you Kindly Pointed out So Mybe all l need to do more air hole's re soil it With Coco Earths and topsoil and See If that help's it Out but the mould is not dangerous to my frog or toad if mold removed thanks again
