I have only had Norman for 2 days and I think he might be in trouble. First day I got him home he ate 2 crickets and settled down in his moss. 2nd day he ate another cricket but decided to swallow some orchid bark at the same time. It was a fair sized chunk so today I removed him, cut the moss into small pieces and replaced the orchid bark with coconut fibre. I put him back in his home gave him a cricket and waxworm but he's ignoring them and has totally buried himself in moss. I will be gutted if I lose him so soon, he's a green horned.
maybe he is impacted but I am not sure
The people here will help you
I hope your frog gets well!
please post pic of your frog as well as post here your answers to "trouble in the enclosure" questions ( sticky thread). thank you!
don't panic just yet, but take all moss and bark or whatever else you have and replace it completely with fine coconut fiber ( plantation soil, eco earth). how big is a frog and how big that chunk of bark was?
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
so from what i see you need to replace absolutely all moss with coconut fiber as i said earlier. My Pacman could be in trouble!

10 gallon tank
80 degrees
80-85% humidity
trimmed live moss.
orchid bark now replaced with coconut fibre.
misting and water bowl/ spring water.
dusted crix and the occasional waxworm.
artificial plants.
3d back wall.
drop humidity a bit, you want 70-80 range.
temps - make sure it has night drop of a few degrees and feed him after the lights are off after he poops, right now you need to make sure he hasn't impacted due to him swallowing this bark piece. give it a few days and see how he looks, touch his sides for any hard lumps, but right now change substrate, fix temps, humidity and let him be, he needs to adjust to his new environment. if in a few days he seems to be interested in food and you don't see any impaction signs ( see his poop, he isn't bloated, etc) offer food.
oh i would switch his water dish to a bit smaller one for now, it seems too big for him or may be it is just pic

Thanks Lija, bowl is too big so will change tomorrow. Moss is rubbish so that will be replaced by coco fibre, shall I leave a dry area for him or don't they mind the damp substrate? I will mist a bit less as that's causing my humidity plus that awful moss.
Agree with Lija's comments! Loose shredded coco fiber comes pretty dry in the bag. Using a clean container or bag (no chemical cleaners, soap, etc.) add the coco you will be using and then some dechlorinated water. Mix it up with clean hand until you get it to clump in your fist, but it does not drip. If you add too much water and it drips when squeezed, add more coco until it just clumps. Then it's ready for use in enclosure. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Carlos, do I not need any dry areas for Norman or is damp coco fine throughout?
Cheers for the advice. Good news, both crix are gone and Norman has been moving about.
good to hear, its also good practice to take them out and soak them in de chlorinated water to help them get hydrated, it helps to promote feeding, in my experience
I agree, and to feed as well, i feed my small guys on wet paper towels when i remove them for feeding, this way they eat and wont get any coco fiber in them, once they are medium to large in size you can feed them in the enclosure, but for small ones, they get fed on wet paper towels, with de-chlorinated water of course.
Good advice guys, do they like to be handled or is it something they can get used to?
Norman is sitting in his little pond, been there for a couple of hours. I also purchased a water filter today which removes 90% of impurities.
Now that you got Norman active and eating it's time to leave him alone and watch him grow. Change his dish water daily, feed a nice diet of earthworms and gut loaded crickets, add CA 2x and vitamins 1x a week on alternate days, spot clean and do full change cleanup with substrate change once a month, and avoid handling as much as you can. Only other thing you can do is to have vet do a fecal test for possible parasites.
IRT water filter, if you mean a tap water filter; would not use it for frog water if it removes any minerals too. Just use tap water with a good de-chlorinator. Good luck!

Its one of them charcoal filters thats fits in the water jug and you pour water through it, no good?
I got some de-chlorinator today, mashed up some coco fibre with it, got it nice and damp and gave Normans home a good clean. No poop yet but he has just eaten a waxworm.
