Siphoning water????

im going to be putting a tube in the front corner of my tank so i can siphon the water from my drainage layer, it will be capped with a fake rock. I cannot however for the life of me find the post/reply about this issue, someone recommended that at the bottom of the tube i put a plain house sponge to act as a filter, is this true ?

The sponge will catch all the debris keeping the tubing clear for water. Just push the tubing int the sponge. Make sure it's a clean sponge that you've sterilized in boiling water first. Make sure it doesn't contain any detergents.
