    Default RIP Gonzo

One of my adult red-eyes has died unexpectedly. My red-eyes are the only frogs that I have named. My female is Weed, because she grew so fast. The male which actually bred with her is Silent Bob, because I have never heard him utter a peep. He is bigger than the other male, Gonzo and the only the reason I know he is male is because I saw him in amplexus everytime I put the frogs in the rain chamber.
Gonzo was a strange, but vocal frog. I even heard him call last night before going to sleep myself, or least I thought it was him. Gonzo was always thinner than the other red-eyes and acted weird at times, hence the name he was given. You know how red-eyes sleep on the sides of the tank, with their heads up? Gonze would sometimes sleep sideways.
I was very surprised to find his body at the bottom of the enclosure when I got up. I have no clue as to the cause of death. The best I can figure is that maybe he had some sort of genetic defect, and thats why he was smaller than his brother SB and acted strangely at times. I will miss his "complaining" when SB got the girl (everytime). Rest in peace you little weirdo, you will be missed.

About two weeks ago, I lost my largest barred tiger salamander to an unknown disease. Two days prior, I attempted to feed him and he showned no interest in eating, major red-flags for a keeper of this species. Two days later, the NEHS meeting was scheduled, so I planned on bringing him down then and having my vet take a look at him. That morning I went to pack him up and he was dead. I was bummed.
I got him as a little guy and he grew so big. I would open the top and he would "leap" up at me looking to be fed. That's the way he reacted everytime, except for the very last time. The time before last he was lunging at me. So go figure. RIP unnamed barred tiger salamander. You are already missed.

I'm sorry for your losses, Kurt. Gonzo sounds like he was a real character.

Sorry for your loss, that fully sucks.
I hate it when things die from mysterious illnesses.

    Kind thoughts

Yeah, mystery dieases suck. When you know whats wrong you can either do something about or not do anything in the case of something thats incurable. But with an unknown ailment that pops and kills an amimal before you have a chance to even react, well, that just sucks.

    Thanks everybody.

I'm sorry to hear about that happening Kurt. There's nothing worse than being blind-sighted like that, especially when it's something you care about.

Sorry for your losses. I know what it's like to come in to a nasty shock like that. But it sounds like you gave them the best, so I bet they were very happy while they were with you.
