Well, I checked up on my Chorus frogs on Saturday morning, and Chrome wasn't in his tank, and the lid was slightly open. Levi was there, sleeping, so I placed him aside in a separate container and tore apart the tank in order to find to Chrome. Nothing. I have literally torn apart my room and searched my entire house without rest since, and to no avail, setting down water dishes, misting the room constantly, looking under furniture, in furniture, emptying out my closet, looking even under posters, despite the fact my room is very bare.
I'm afraid that I have to assume now that Chrome went into my bullfrog Gnag's tank, and... you can guess the rest
I honestly don't know what to do right now. I'm grieving for Chrome, and wondering whether I should get another Chorus frog to give Levi company. I've secured the lid for their tank now, and Levi is doing fine, but still, no sign of Chrome. I'm also still in the process of curing and helping my Green frog, Bumpy, recover from a double whammy of Giardia and tetany, so I'm already stressed out and busy.
Should I be mad at Gnag? Should I keep on looking?
RIP Chrome, my beautiful little Chorus frog. You will be missed.

It's been 2 days with no luck, and I know that it must've been Gnag. The last time my Chorus frogs escaped, both did, and they immediately headed to Gnag's tank. Only, that time, I was awake and there to place them back in their own tank. I've placed 2 heavy books on top of Levi's tank, and I plan to get a more secure lid, without the open corners like this one had, ASAP. I feel so bad, if only I had stayed up that night.
Should I get a new Chorus frog now, or wait until my grief is over? Either way, this is the first time I've ever lost an amphibian![]()

so sorry for your loss, it sucks to loose a frog especially like you did, big time!
you see how you feel, if you feel like you can get another frog go for it, we all feel differently, grief differently and there are some frogs that you are attached more. i can tell you that when i lost my Zuma ( in the avatar) i couldn't think of getting another C. cranwelli for 5 months i think, his tank was empty for very long too, i couldn't force myself to use it for anyone else. I lost more frogs since then, and by the looks of it i will be loosing another one soon but none had such impact on me as Zuma.
i can tell you also as sad as it is, it is also educational experience, take it, learn from it and go forward with that knowledge.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
This whole weekend it seems like a lot of people have had losses. Today, one of my best friends had to put down his dog that he's known his entire life, and another one of my best friends who runs an animal rescue has lost 3 ferrets to cancer over the last 2 weeks. So we're all going through a hard time
My friends have suggested that I get another frog, not just for me, but for Levi, because he's been really down in the dumps about the loss of Chrome too. It may sound unlikely that he'd even care but he just seems really sad about Chrome. He's sleeping more than usual, hasn't eaten much at all since Chrome's disappearance, is a dark brown instead of his usual khaki, and is overall less active, so I think he's just as depressed as I am about Chrome's passing. I'm just trying to comfort him and give him as much love as I can, but it's difficult when I'm just as down as he isMy other amphibians are doing fine, Bumpy is recovering well from her case of tetany and Giardia. I think I'll probably get a friend for Levi soon, not to replace Chrome, but to give him company and to let him and I build a new relationship with a new friend. But for now, I'm just going to give myself some time to grieve the loss of Chrome and comfort Levi as best I can.
Thanks for the response, from now on I'm making sure that Gnag's lid is secure, and keeping two heavy books on top of the lid of my Chorus frogs tank, with the lid firmly placed on, until I get a proper, full lid instead of the metal mesh one.

Sorry for Chrome's death Caspian. Would not blame Gnag if Chrome wandered into his lair. Replacing it at this stage sounds good. However; if you release new frog in enclosure without a proper quarantine... it's a health risk for Levi. Good luck
.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
I suppose it was Gnag's nature to do that. As my mother has said to me, "Nature is beautiful but cruel."
I think it would be good and lifting for both Levi and me to get a new friend, but it in no way will be replacing Chrome, because you can't just replace an animal, no matter what species or size. And neither do I want to replace Chrome. All I can do now is remember the good times I had with him.
I'll probably quarantine the new frog for a week or two just to be safe, but I'm ready to take on any diseases/ailments that may present a challenge.
Thanks for all the support, guys. I appreciate it.
