Ok so I have had my thermo/hygrostat going with a 40w day glo bulb and a 40w moonlight bulb (blue). My temps got up to 82 degrees for the daytime but when I switched off the day glo bulb I was only managing 73 degrees for the night time temps. I can upgrade the blue bulb to a 50w easily though. So I guess Im asking if anyone thinks that the extra 10w will be enough to bring me up to 77 degrees for the night temps? I have a uth that was constantly running for day and night. I dont have the frog yet because Im just trying to sort this night time issue out but I think I will be ready soon! #EXCITED!

Hi yes I use a 50w bulb at night , it should be ok . Bet you cannot wait , hope yours turns out as calm and sweet as mine

I do believe a 50 would bring it up to about 77. That is awesome you are setting everything up before hand a lot of people don't do that and it definitely pays a toll on their animals. So props for that!

Hi yes Im just across the water in sunny Southport ha ha , as pointed out about substrate avoid moss , I ended up taking it out . I use zoo med Eco earth ,You can get 3 bricks on ebay I have had Rolo over 5 months now and he is ace(never been bitten) where are you getting yours from? I heard there is a good rep shop near you.

Thanks Carlos for the advice, I'll do just that! I ordered the 3 bricks of Eco-earth too Mchelle. The shop is called The Retile Room, they are good at what they do with snakes but the frogs are all on moss etc. Plus they are a right set of ignorant, rude and arrogant b*******s! I haven't decided yet where to get it from, maybe Emsworth as my dad has had some good quality snakes from there?

Yeah sadly many places are like that, I got mine from Dobbies and they had him on loads of moss. They all found it funny to feed him pinkies all the time and from what I heard gathered around to watch , He would of been tiny when they got him . Just before I took him home The girl said he had ate a whole mouse ( I cringed) he bit her when she tried to pick him up ha ha. I have just cleaned him out ,working around him he sits nicely and calmly, then I gently give him a nudge and he moves for me, he then turns around to watch what Im doing . He is ace , but did have problems pooping when I first got him. A few honey baths helped and he is Ok now and not been fed pinkies by me yet.

Congrats for getting enclosure stable before getting your frogs ! Are you running both lights during day, or only the 40W Day Glo? If singly, then your plan to get a higher wattage night lamp will probably work. If it does not get you there; then try replacing black bulb for a red one (sometimes those red bulbs heat more than the moonlights).

If running both lights during day, as you increase the wattage of the moonlight it will have an effect on you daytime temps too. Just measure it and make sure it does not exceed your frogs parameters. If it does, update thread and let us know where temps are to come up with another plan. Good luck

I am running both during the day yes. However I do have the thermo/hygrostat set to not exceed 83 degrees, then when I turn off the day glo at night it should just drop to around 77degrees with the 50w moonlight. BUT that is in theory lol.

I will update again once I try this and let you know how I get on. Thanks for the help guys

Use Infrared bulbs at night. 50 watts.

Hey folks,

So I got a new 50w bulb and the night temp has gone up to 77-79. So I guess Im ready to take the next step. Im just about to order the rest of the stuff I need like substrate, water dish, vitamins, calcium, food, water and conditioner etc etc. However I am going away for a 2 week excavation on june 22, but after I get home guess who is getting a froggy?

For substrate make sure it matches your planned frog requirements because some are an impaction hazard. If available, recommend CA & vitamin supplements from Repashy or ReptoCal. Food can wait if getting frogs on late June, unless starting a culture of roaches, worms, etc. Get conditioner that also detoxifies heavy metals but has no aloe or emollients for fish. Good luck !
