So far they are 16 days old, I keep them inside, and are lovely fat things They have little things each side of their legs and I want to know if they are legs so that I can start setting up their tank. Here is a picture I drew of them, would you say this is the beggining of legs, or something they just have?
Those are definitely limb buds. It looks to be at Gosner stage 26 or 27 based on your drawing. Gosner stage is a system that scientists used to categorize tadpoles growth and development. Google image Gosner stage for further reference. Depending on species their growth rate can be different. If you can find out what species this tadpole is then you can time their metamorphosis, although it can be tricky due to food and water temperature, which is trickier than it seems. Good luck!
