Young WTF with Runny "Poo" ... Suggestions for treatment?

Hi all,

OK, so I have some little WTFs, and one of them was not eating for a few days (about a week and a half ago). I was instructed to get a stool sample for testing in case of infection. I have been watching and monitoring closely for improvement,but I have not been able to find a stool to scoop up from the frog I am wondering about.

Today, I had my little one out and about, and (I think) he "pooped." It was more like when they squirt (pee?) if you scare them, but there was a dark spot of something semi-solid in it. No possible way I could scoop it up though, it was completely fluid, and instantly ran down my laptop (of all places...).

I have seen him continue eating, including this morning, but am not regularly finding poops, so I know something is wrong. I can't really get it tested, though, so what should I do? I have seen on some threads that there is medicine to be bought, but I don't have much money to buy everything out there.

Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance.

Hello Phil! First thing recommended is to move sick frog to "frog hospital" as described for quarantine here: http://www.frogforum.net/general-dis...uarantine.html. Parasites are highly contagious and keeping sick frog there can get all others sick. Also, you should avoid handling sick frogs as much as possible because the added stress is going to make their condition worse.

If frog has protozoan parasites, the medication is "Flagyl;" a version of metronidizole available from veterinary. Some more info here: Frog Forum - Basic Frog First Aid . Good luck !

runny poop as Carlos mentioned is almost always a sigh of protozoa or parasites infestation. Please, please make sure you know what is it before just getting meds and treating hoping it will work. vet clinics have those little bottles for poop sample with little scoop for things like runny poop, get one or 2 of those, scoop and then get it tested. You will need to treat everybody who lived in that enclosure, everybody has to be housed in hospital set up with wet papertowels that gotta be changed every day.
