next question.. Can want to silicone moss in random places. The moss I have you soak in water for 20-30 minutes before putting in terrarium, so my question is do I have to let it completely dry out before using silicone to put in the different places or will it stick being slightly damp? Also is it true I can silicone dried shelf mushrooms onto my tree trunk as long as I bake them first?

that moss won't stick if it is damp. to get the effect you are looking for, i just tear up a piece of sheet moss into smaller pieces and either place them in spots, or i use an opened up paper clip to attach them. the moss will even grow and spread that way.

i'm not 100% sure about the mushrooms, but i would think they need to be dried first, then baked at a lower temp than you would bake wood at so they don't get crispy. that would be if you are collecting your own. you may be able to find already prepared ones online though.

I collected the mushrooms from a tree in my back yard and they are already dried out As far as the moss goes I bought zoo med terrarium moss(sphagnum moss) will that moss start growing? I didn't think it would. I knew frog moss would but not that one. paper clipping it is a great idea for most of what I am doing however I am covering one side of my water feature tube to hide it. would silicone be the best for doing that?

no, that forest moss or whatever they call it is dried and processed. no chance for regeneration. even the frogmoss is iffy at best. as far as siliconing the tube, it kind of depends. silicone would work. if you can get all the way around it, fishing line would also work, so would super glue.

okay thanks for your help. I didn't know super glue was frog safe, good to know. And as far as the mushrooms they are safe right? I have read they are but thought I would ask anyhow..

the mushrooms should be safe. my only concern would be them reconstituting from all the humidity in the tank and getting soft and mushy. a coat of krylon fusion clear coat would definitely prevent that from happening. again, i'm not sure it would happen. i would just do that as a cautionary measure. you can always do a test on one though.
