Yes, yes, contain you excitement! (or not. ) This is probably the most Aurita pics you'll see at one time! (So far...hahahaa)
I took our older Aurita out for a photoshoot last night. It will be three months old next week. It is currently 3.5 inches SVL. It is a chubby, piggy, grump who has never turned down food! (Yes, I keep saying "it." We aren't positive on gender yet. Their skull shape is so different from the other species that you can't compare that. And so little is known about their growth rate and maturity rate. So we shall see!)
I was expecting it to give me attitude. It is the only one of all my frogs that has screamed at me. Which was funny because it was a tiny little 1.5 inch baby at the time. Both my Auritas seem to be more prone to puffing up at the slightest whim (such as every time I change their water, lol) So I was pleasantly surprised when my little friend didn't give me the slightest trouble. It sat still the whole time and didn't puff up or even breathe fast. So I was able to get some great shots. The colors have changed so much! The green is almost all gone, it has more brown now, and its stripes are an odd yellowish/tan color. The red has turned into a beautiful orange. It is amazing to see so many colors in one frog! ENJOY!
Love it grif!!
That is one properly fat ugly bastard ! Great looking frog
Awesome frog, congrats !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Gorgeous frog! Love the striped back.
Thank you Carlos. Usually when we post pics of these frogs we don't get many comments. Sometimes I feel like posting pics of these rare beauties is wasted and they aren't appreciated. After all it's not everyday that you see new photos of a Ceratophrys aurita. I love to share them with everyone though.
Apricot? They are a color morph of Albino C. cranwelli. This is the rarest of the Horned Frogs the Brazilian Horned Frog which is also the largest of the family. I agree with you though. It seems that all these designer morphs seem to overshadow even a highly sought after frog such as these.
Think I've read about morphs called strawberry (maby not a fruit but you get the idea) and something like green apple too?
But anyway, I prefer the natural colored animals. The aurita looks great! Is it as yellow in real life as in the pictures?
That is a beautiful frog. It's the true Bells horned frog from the pictures I saw in books as a child, amazing. Is the care any different from the more common species?
my daughter just came by and said that is one ugly frog, almost as ugly as my Ruby lol
what does she know lol. damn it, i want aurita now, she is awesome, love horns and facial expression, like yeah, i'm a queen and i know it.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
oh well then he thinks he is a king lol
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
that is exactly why he wasn't mad, for royalty taking pictures is a casual thing lol
