right, this is how i had it set up, and now i've added a 20w gu10 bulb (bog standard, nothing fancy like the xo terra etc) (Bill, i was told that it's better to have the sensor on the same side as the mat, tho still not 100% on this)

i hadn't realized that the sensor was external. like i said, i don't use them, but i would agree that it should stay on the same side. it's to prevent the glass from getting too hot and cracking. if the right side is cooler, i would put the halogen over that side. that should provide more uniform heat.
