    Default New 50/50 Setup 20L

heres my new setup for my female pyxie buddha. land side is eco earth and soil above a false bottom. water side has a submersible heater, river rocks, and external canister filter. the water temp is still a little lower than id like but she absolutely loves it. she spends most of her time swimming in the water side by the heater and filter output jets

Awesome setup beez. I started with a 501 (filter) as well. I upgraded twice then just went with a big canister (hydor premiere 20). I was changing the filter media on the 501 every few days to a week. I had multiple pyxies though too.

I like the setup and love to see when these guys get to enjoy a water feature in their cage. Good Work!

where did you get the plexi from and what did you use to keep it in place?

got the plexi cut for me at home depot. i siliconed it around on both sides. it also came out a little longer than the exact width of the tank so its kinda wedged curved in there and stable even before i siliconed which worked out nice.

given the amount of time she now spends in the water im surprised more people dont recommend water sections. she gets a lot of exercise by swimming around and shes pretty good at swimming fast. its also easy to feed in the water because i dont have to worry about her ingesting any substrate.

Hello Beez! Glad your frog and yourself are having fun with new set-up. Only thing is, recommend you watch her growth and remove any pebbles that fit her large mouth.

Actually there is another option where the whole enclosure is 100% water with an above water basking area (used upturned clay pot dish). I kept my last African Bullfrog in that type set-up for 3-4 months and he was fine and rarely left the water.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
