I like my dubias so much I bought myself some pet hissing roaches. The guy who owns a shop around here made me an offer to take 4 of his last ones off his hand and I couldn't say no. Ive thinking about building a viv for them in large critter keeper. No adults yet and unsure of their sexes, but when they are breeding g size I'm hoping for some babies to feed to the phibs and maybe hold a couple back to increase my population a little.
this is them in a little plastic egg hunt for stick em in when cleaning out their keeper.
this is how they are set up in their little critter keeper right now. Just a little eco earth for substrate. Piece of cork bark and a food/water dish.
I caught this one just finishing a molt and was able to snag a perfect empty shell before she decided to eat it
And just a random pic of my biggest one on my thumb
I'm done rambling on for now:beer:

Hissers are pretty cool and funny animals. I have a male in my colony that get pissy any time he gets touched haha. They should be easy to sex at that size. Looks like all females to me.
Looks like I'll have to track down a male for them then lol.
I'm a very visual person and all I can seem to find for sexing guides for them are just text and no good images so I was just going to wait till they were adults and look for differences.
These girls are very reluctant to hiss, every now and then when I mist them I'll get a disgruntled hiss. The largest one tolerates handling quite well but the smaller ones get flighty really quickly.

nice acquisition matt.i was sad when i had to give mine up.
i had a breeding bin as well as a show viv for some. there's a thread around here somewhere on it. the easiest way to sex them is males have larger protrusions on their heads. they look more like horns compared to the females. also, i believe the antennae are longer one on than the other. i just forget which has the longer antennae.

So I woke up to find this morning the biggest and smallest just finally molted(the other 2 molted about a week or two ago). But the best part is... The smallest is a male! His horns are massive compared to all the others =)
So looks like I lucked out and got the 1.3 I was hoping for =)
