Hey everyone. I recently got two clown tree frogs( yesterday, actually) from a reptile expo (two for 75$). I have them In a vertical exoterra tank. I could go on to describe everything, nut I am worried about something. A few hours after I set up the viv, I noticed some red marks on the wall of the viv. I wiped my finger on It, and my finger returned red. I was sure it was blood. I examined both frogs, looking for cuts, and I didn't find any, and I thought the redness was just some coloration from the tank. Today I saw another red mark, and I put one of the frogs on the side of the tank on the glass, and I saw what I think is a very small cut on its belly. HELP! I might be able to post pics.
Can you post pics of the frog and enclosure?
I might be able to tomorrow, when I can find the camera or use an iphone( my sibling and parents have one, and I am currently home alone)
Actually... I think this may be a false alarm. I can't seem to find any cuts on my frog after a second look... I think It may have been a blood vessel or something, although I don't know where the "blood" came from. After wiping with a tissue, it was pink-ish. My other clown frog has a small spot on his skin that shed off later than the rest, so can blood have come from this? I'm just confused now.
This might sound weird but can you set them on a paper towel and see if any blood ends up on the paper towel?
that sounds like a good idea

@2:00 min, I think the "red" spots may be paint, but I saw it inside the enclosure like i said before, and I did not see it before set-up
I put the frogs on wet paper towels, and no blood came
From what I saw in the video it didn't look like blood to me. I don't know what else it could be though... And no blood on the paper towels is a good sign!!! And I have the same issue with crickets climbing behind the background! I have been meaning to stuff something in there so the crickets cant get in. Anyhoo, I saw that you have your frogs in the 8"x8"x12" Nano tank. You will need to upgrade to the 12"x12"x18". Those Nanos are too small for a frog.![]()
Even ones that are that tiny?( they are both about one inch). I suppose I might be able to get a new tank, but that one cost me 30 bucks. Also, these guys seem to not move that much, even when they are awake, unless I get them excited.
Yes, even though they are small. They will be happier with the extra room. The 12x12x18 is about the size of a 10 gal. tank. That is the smallest you should go. Petsmart has the 12x12x18 on sale for $50.
Actually, I think I found the problem. This is my other frog i have in there

My father, who is a doctor, says this is a scab, or possibly a cist.poor froggy! When I bought him, I noticed the circle on his belly(it wasn't as big), and I pointed it out to the breeder. He said it probably was unshedded skin.
Ouch! Poor babyHopefully it is just a scab. Maybe you could put some Neosporin (without the painkiller) on it to keep it from getting infected?
he seems to be doing fine thankfully, I'll get some neosporin, but wouldn't it come off from rubbing?
Probably but I would just keep applying it until the scab heals. Put a little bit on a Q-tip and use that to apply it. Make sure it is the Neosporin without painkillers though. The painkiller is toxic.
Ok thanks for your help
You are welcome!![]()
When I was putting the frog on the paper towel, he jumped onto the heat lamp of my FBT enclosure. He immediately came off, i think he is fine. Is there any concern for this?
