Sorry Lija; missed your 2nd question . Been lucky with my unit I guess. Eventually plan to try and get all heat needing animals in a rack and use heat cable with good thermostat controller. Until that happy day, it's the Zoo Med rheostat; heat tape; couple dimmer hoods; and constant monitoring .
