They do seem very holier than thou which is what I have hated about a lot of the reptile forums I visited in the past.

Thank you for being a very nice, reasonable bunch.
Your making us blush, to hear other people tell it some of us are big meanies!

Hehe, some people mistake genuine helpfulness (and really caring about the animals in our care) for meanness.

Nice plants! I wish I had the patience for live plants, but I don't...and I also have a black thumb!

I use sand in my tank for my ACF. We changed from those big smooth glass pebbles to sand when she was a baby and she instantly loved it! So did I--the pebbles always got stuff stuck between them. The sand was crazy cloudy for the first few days but once it settled, the water was crystal clear. We spent a few hours cleaning it before hand (a huge pain but SO worth it). It is so easy to clean--I just stir it up a bit and then suction the yucky suff out with a big turkey baster.

She doesn't ingest the sand, either. Somehow, she can seperate the stuff from food really easily. It's so funny looking--she'll go hunting around the bottom of the tank for any food she missed and then get a huge mouthful of sand when she finds a morsel. Then for the next second or so, she makes this kind of fast little chewing motion and a waterfall of sand will stream out of her mouth until only the morsel is left. It's the funniest thing to watch!

Anyway, she really does seem to like the sand a lot--she digs around in it and it gives her a good purchase for her little claws when she wants to stay put. I also love how it looks.

I'd like to note that african clawed frogs can and will dispel foreign matter from their mouths if they find it distasteful/inedible. For instance if they get a mouth full of duckweed in my tank, my frogs can and will 'spit' it out.
