Was reading on internet about frogs and came across an unknown to me species; Leptodactylus laticeps. Commonly known as the Coraline Frog, it's endemic to the Chaco area of Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. It's very attractive and rarely exported. The IUCN list it as threatened or vulnerable; apparently from local consumption as food (even though skin is toxic) and collectors for pet industry. It's very expensive when available and "possible pairs" are offered at $1,500.00 in the U.S.
Has anyone in forum kept or even seen this beauty alive?

Thanks for comments and likes! They sound very expensive for a frog hobbyist; but for an experienced breeder, it's an inversion that would be recovered in first successful breeding (if a pair) .

unfortunately, pricing of the more rare species isn't limited to phibs, as i'm sure you know from your cichlid. a buddy of mine who breeds high end discus just recently acquired a breeding pair for $2400 and paid $1600 for a pair of freshwater shrimp that were only 8mm long. the prices breeders set is astonishing sometimes. but you are correct, you can recoup your investment on the first sale or two, if you can find someone willing to pay the price.
i wonder if at $1500 for a breeding pair comes with a live arrival guarantee? it better!! lol

Too bad people actually buy threatened animals that are wild caught... I know for a species to be availible CB they first need to be imported as WC but that shouldn't be allowed for anyone and especially not with endangered species. That's what I think at least.
Gorgeous frog though!
wow, that is one very good looking frog may i say.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
In japan, this frog is sold rarely for aroudn $500.Many collecter in japan want this frog
Would love to see one in person . So pretty.
