I'm thinking of changing my set-up again. At the mo the FBTs are in a large exo-terra bowl, with bogwood in and two live pants. The rest is Eco-earth stuff, artificial plants and a couple of hides. I am having to change the water daily and it must be stressful for the frogs to be moved out of it all the time.
I'm thinking of having smooth gravel banked up as a beach with moss on the top, a filter and 2-4 inch of water with Elodea in it. I will still put hides & plants on the land side but it'll be mostly aquatic. Then I should be able to study the toads more & they will have more room to move about in the water, & hopefully I will only have to change the water every week or so.
Do you think this will be better for them?
Sounds like a good plan and similar to what Kurt describes in our FBT care article. Best of luck with it and please post photos.

Hi, sound very similar to my set ups. Im not familiar with FBT's but I found it was better to separate the water area as you can see on my photo because the gravel/rocks can cave in on your frog when it tries to climb out of the water. If you use small stones rather than gravel it makes syphoning the water out easier as the stones don't get sucked up the hose. I syphon the water out once a week. You can't tell in the photo but the water depth is 8cm. The plants and Moss i have grow well too. I have had this style of set up for 2 years and it works well for my Green and golden Bell Frogs and young Southern bells. Have fun setting it up and i would love to see it when its finished.
Here's a couple of pics of my re-vamp. The filter is in the left corner where the plants are. Its quite a gentle one, (Fluval Mini), & doesn't seem to bother the frogs one bit.
They really seem to be happy with it, swimming about and being able to climb out quite easily.
I'm getting some Elodea tomorrow, & was wondering whether to get two or three guppies?? What do you think. I would like to see a couple of fish swimming about.

Looks great! But I wouldnt mix fish with Fire Bellies, as they are toxic.
No, thanks for that, I've just read some other threads about adding fish and its a no no. Bit of a shame tho, as it would've looked nice with a couple of small fish swimming around.
