Ugh, this is a disaster. Norm apparently made it out a hole in the back of the tank sometime yesterday. When I came home last night I just thought he was hiding in the wisteria. He was on the floor covered in dust this morning and barely moving. He was alive tho. I dipped him in the tank and held him so his head was above water for about 5 min. He moved a little and gaped a bit but is now pretty motionless. I have him in a small container with his head above water laying on some wisteria. I doubt there is much I can do for him but wait and see if the dehydration was too much
I am so upset. I love this little guy. I cant believe I didnt see this freaking hole in the back of the filter/top/back area of the tank. I feel like an idiot.
I just checked on him again. He is not moving. I dont know if he is alive. He definitely was alive when I found him but he could have been out for 24 hours now.
Carole
I am pretty sure he is dead. I am crying as I type this. I can't believe I was so stupid. I really loved this little guy.
Give him time. Sometimes they can look dead but just be severely dehydrated.
They are mostly water, when they dehydrate their organs start shutting down. Make sure he is in very shallow water that does not cover his nose. Keep wetting any exposed back skin. Make sure you are 100% certain he has passed before disposing of him.

and don't beat yourself up over it. tbings happen. and now you know there is a security issue that can be corrected. hopefully norm pulls through![]()

oh no. So sorry.
Do what Jen suggested, place him in very shallow water (nostrils above water) and give him time to hydrate himself. It may take time but these guys can bounce back miraculously. They are rather tough frogs.
Letting him soak for a few minutes in a dish of shallow water with unflavored pedeolite mixed I to it. Using 1:10 ratio of pedeolite to dechlorinated water. Then another shallow bath or plain dechlorinated water before returning him to his little temp home. If he is still kicking this will help give him a boost. Goodluck!

Maybe someone else could chime in on this idea, but do you think pedialyte soaks may help?
Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement. Norm is definitely dead. He is very stiff and his eyes are flattish with no life in them. I had left him in shallow water propped up on some wisteria when I went to work and was not hopeful. He was alive when I found him but when I was attempting to rehydrate he sort of gaped a bit and was moving his legs but then he stiffened up for a second and his legs straightened out then I never saw him move again. I think he died in my hand. I feel so terrible. I never would have thought I could become attached to a frog. I do think the pedialyte soak is a good idea based on what I know about reptiles (not amphibs) but I think it was too late. If I had only looked for him last night he would probably be ok.
Thank you again,
Carole
Sorry for Norm's death Carole!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!

Sorry about youe loss. My favorite frog got out some time ago and was missing for 3 days. I found here in a box in a closet, she actually lived though.
I am so sorry for your loss! I have lost a frog to dehydration before also
