So decided to get some Tesselata roaches to breed, why not, 1 giant roach = quick meal for Big Bertha. As far as i can tell I have an adult male and 4 sub adult females.
Caatingas I got from Mike, one seems very dark/almost grey in color, he refused to eat for months I had to force feed him. Hes finally eating on his own again but seems to have a deformed spine or something he just doesnt look right in comparison to others.>>Big Bertha from Mike>>High Red Ornate Female
Cranwelli I saved from local pet store, was thriving for a while then all the sudden refused food, also had to, and still am force feeding but is in much better shape than it was 2 months ago(lookd like skin and bones)>>
High Red ornates i got form Tailsnmore all doing great all eating, the little guy eats but doesnt grow, but hes my favorite

I have a few questions about these huge roaches you have here. I read a post from a year ago that answered many questions i may have had but i have a few more.
1. So how do these guys really compare to dubia's when breeding? One dubia will give birth once every two months is it the same with these guys?
2. Do you house them the same as you would dubia's with the exception that they can climb smooth surfaces?
4. If i wanted to have a large colony of about 1000 how many should i start out with and how long should it take for me to start seeing some serious numbers?
4. It takes my average dubia 6 months to become an adult from first born. Is that about the same amount of time it takes for your Tesselata roaches to mature?
I dont know if you culture dubia's so i am sorry if i am asking questions that you cant answer from personal experience. I have been very successful breeding dubia's i have thousands of them but I am looking for a larger breed for my larger frogs. I want to avoid feeding warm blooded animals to my frogs so the bigger the bug the better. I have considered hisser's but they are so expensive.
I am very new to these guys so I dont know details only what the lady told me and I read through some posts i found online but very quickly scanned them.
1. these guys take many months according to the lady to produce babys, she said up to 9 months even. Also she said they are very sensitive to stress and will drop their egg clutch instantly if bothered while gravid.
2. exactly the same as dubias, they cant clim smooth surfaces. They may like slightly higher temps then dubias and require dead pieces of wood to aid in breeding, they like to eat it...
3. no idea, as i was told they take many months to reproduce so I imagine you would need a huge # I paid an arm and leg for these guys 5$ ea. Oh yeah their egg clutches are huge 100+ babies when hatched so...maybe if u get a bunch of gravid females??? (them being so sensitive, not sure if thats possible)
4. if i remember correctly the lady said 9 months from baby to adult. Everything with this breed is patience/waiting. I will make a new post when and if I successfully breed them.
right on thanks for the info. I will be patiently awaiting an up date.
Are you housing all your frogs together by species? Your little Ornata is bite sized for the others and may very well be eaten one day when you go to check on them.
They look good other than the two you mentioned with issues. The Cranwelli does look off. Keep up the force feeding he may snap out of it. The dark Joaz looks weird like you said. I'm not sure what is wrong. Possibly just recieved some porr genes, but at least he eats and that is good.
Also instead of combining your feeder roaches into a thread about your Pacman please post a separate thread about your roaches in the feeder section since they don't belong in this area of the forum.
Thank you![]()
They are only together for the photo, as for the roaches, sorry didnt mean to offend/upset anyone I post here b/c I am feeding them to my frogs and was curious to see peoples reactions/experiences with them and pacmans. THANK YOU![]()
Can you help me "move" the post? or tell me how to please, IDK
I bet its right in front of my face but I R blind
Yay, after feeding this pac some worms shes doing way better. This pic was taken a week or 2 ago, last night she ate 8 worms, possibly more she just doesnt stop! All the force feeding was worth it and so was switching to worms.
Pics just taken. Shes a happy fat girl xD
